Used Carpet Cleaning Equipment

Used Carpet Cleaning Equipment

It's possible that you've spent a small fortune on the carpet and rugs in your home, and keeping them beautiful and new-looking is likely a priority. Used carpet cleaning equipment is a great alternative to the pricier, new equipment on the market. And finding used carpet cleaning equipment is now easier than ever, thanks to the Internet and the advent of online classified sites.

Some of the best names in carpet cleaning, including used carpet cleaning equipment include Hoover, Bissell, and Electrolux. When purchasing your used carpet cleaning equipment, you'll likely be faced with lots of options, but most carpet cleaners – no matter how they are "billed" actually operate under one premise: the use of "steam" to clean the carpet by extracting dirt. Steam cleaners should actually be called hot water extractors because the steam that the produce (if they produce any steam at all) is minimal at best. A machine that uses steam to clean with is a vapor steam carpet cleaner. There is definitely a difference between the two. In general, when purchasing used carpet cleaning equipment, you can expect to pay 50% less than the equipment would cost if it was purchased now. Of course there are exceptions to this rule when you might be justified to pay more or less – depending on the age and condition of the particular equipment in question.

Like anything used, used carpet cleaning equipment usually does not come with a warranty against defects – and most is sold "as is". When possible, try it before you buy it – if only to start it up and check for major problems. To make sure that you get the most for your money, you should take these precautions when purchasing used carpet cleaning equipment:
• Check the holding tank or water compartment of the unit to make sure that there are no leaks.
• Turn the unit on, with water in it, of course. Does the spray come out as it's supposed to, straight ahead and to the sides? For vapor units, how low does it take for the steam to start building up?
• Check the filter on the machine. Does it appear to be clean? If the machine has been maintained properly, the filter should be fairly clean.
• Examine the pump belt and the brush belt. Do they seem to be in good shape, free from wear and tear or rips?
• Open the access door to the belt and check for breakage in this location as well.

Buying used carpet cleaning equipment can be a bit daunting, but worthwhile in the end when you save big on a quality, well-maintained machine.
